About Judge Ison
Dan Ison is currently serving his second elected term as Shelby County Judge Executive, following his initial appointment in 2016. With a strong background in public relations and government affairs, Judge Ison brings a wealth of experience to his role.
His career includes serving as Director of Community Relations for Philip Morris USA, followed by work as a senior consultant for Guthrie-Mayes Public Relations in Louisville. Eventually, he launched his own successful government relations consulting firm, providing strategic counsel at the state and local levels.
Judge Ison and his wife, Debbie Holloway, are proud parents of a daughter and a son and are blessed with four beloved grandchildren.
Role of the Judge Executive
The Judge Executive serves as the elected Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shelby County. This role combines responsibilities across both the legislative and executive branches of county government.
Under Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 67.710, the Judge Executive is tasked with:
Executing all ordinances, resolutions, and contracts passed by the fiscal court
Enforcing state laws applicable at the county level
Overseeing daily operations of county government and its departments
Providing updates and recommendations to the fiscal court regarding the performance and direction of county boards, commissions, and services
