What We Do

The Planning and Zoning Office is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to growth and development in Shelby County. The department staff consists of an Executive Director, Planner/Zoning Enforcement Officer and Receptionist. The department handles public inquiries related to planning and zoning, E911 addressing, zone change requests, subdivision and development plan review, short and long range planning, issuance of zoning permits for structures and signage, code enforcement of the Zoning regulations, mapping services, composition of land use regulations and assures implementation of the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Regulations and Subdivision Regulations.

Department staff also provide support to citizen boards including the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustments & Appeals.
